BIG BLUE PICTURES PRESENTS

MONKEY BARS (2020)

SYNOPSIS

When fourteen-year-old Maggie and her two best friends hang out with older guys they meet on Facebook, a crush on a complicated boy unravels into a twisted trance fueled by Four Lokos and naive infatuation.

DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT

This film is an exploration of a unique season of life, a time as beautiful and euphoric as it is disorienting and terrifying. It’s a story about the bittersweet irony of youth; of being impressionable, open minded and openhearted, and the willful ensnarements that can follow the best of intentions.

It’s not until we’re older that we start to grasp the consequences of having once felt so fearless and free. What we thought was love was really naive admiration, driven by manipulation and awe.

And yet, still, we’d give anything to go back. This film is a love letter to those times in life that hurt us—but which, for some peculiar reason, we can never fully let go of.
